German TUBAF delegation visits University of Peradeniya
View(s):A 12-member delegation from the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg (TUBAF), Germany, led by Prof Dr Carsten Drebenstedt, Professor in Surface Mining, visited the University of Peradeniya Vice Chancellor Professor Terrence Madhujith recently.
This international academic engagement was hosted by the university’s Department of Geology.
This visit was part of a collaborative initiative between TUBAF, and the university focused on strengthening ties in geological sciences, mining engineering, and sustainable resource development.
The visit aimed to foster long-term academic collaboration, joint research opportunities, initiating an MoU and international exposure for the students and staff. The team’s visit to the university also included meetings with faculty, facility visits, a public lecture by Prof Drebenstedt (organised in collaboration with the Geological Society of Sri Lanka), and an interactive session with undergraduates.
The meeting at the Vice Chancellor’s Office was also attended by Prof Sanath Rajapakse, Dean, Faculty of Science, Prof Nanda Balasooriya, Director-PGIS, Prof Sanjeewa Malaviarachchi, Director-International Relations and Head of the Department of Geology, Dr Bhathiya Athurupana, Coordinator of the visit and academic staff of the Department of Geology, Faculty of Science.
