CINEC Campus, established in 1990, has become one of Sri Lanka’s most respected and acclaimed private higher education institutions, producing skilled professionals across multiple sectors. Initially focused on merchant marine studies, CINEC has since expanded to meet broader industry demands, including the high-growth area of information technology.

The Faculty of Computing was formalised five years ago in response to increasing demand for IT education. While computing was first introduced as a supporting subject for engineering students, it was later developed into an independent faculty to address industry market requirements. The faculty provides students with access to industry-aligned qualifications and progression pathways in computing and related disciplines.

Key offerings include the government (UGC) approved BSc (Hons) in Software Engineering, as well as BSc (Hons) in Computer Science (Software Engineering), BSc (Hons) in Computer Networks, and the Pearson BTEC HND in Computing, delivered in partnership with Pearson UK. Students following the HND route can specialise in Software Engineering, Network Engineering, Data Analytics, or Cyber Security.

Students who have not completed all subjects at A/L level can enroll in a 10-month Foundation Programme, which provides the necessary academic grounding to pursue further degree qualifications in computing. This pathway ensures broader access to technical education for students from diverse academic backgrounds.

CINEC has also expanded its international programme portfolio. In September 2025, the campus will introduce three new undergraduate IT degrees in partnership with high ranking Anglia Ruskin University, UK. These include the BSc (Hons) in Applied Computer Science, which enables HND holders to complete a UK-recognised degree in one additional year. A Master’s in Artificial Intelligence will also be introduced in the same period.

To enter the BSc (Hons) in Software Engineering, students must have followed their G.C.E. Advance Level examination either in ICT, Mathematics or Engineering Technology stream. In addition to this, student those who are followed the same in other streams may also qualify through a three-month bridging programme.

The Faculty of Computing prioritizes employability through practical training and structured career support. Internship placements, industry engagement and soft skills development are integrated into the academic experience. All computing programmes are designed to align with current and emerging job market needs, locally and internationally.
