Multidisciplinary research centre launched at Colombo University
View(s):The Centre for Multidisciplinary Research and Innovation in Social Policy was launched at the University of Colombo this week.
The centre is expected to be a hub for research and innovation in South Asia, focusing on population dynamics, gender, and reproductive health from a rights-based perspective.
Its main goal is to transform research findings into actionable policy by providing evidence-based recommendations and fostering strategic partnerships with global institutions to share innovative solutions, the university said.
It was established with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Japan.
The event was attended by Vice Chancellor Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, First Secretary and Head of Economic and Development Cooperation of the Embassy of Japan Kenji Ohashi, and
UNFPA Country Representative Kunle Adeniyi.
Academics and researchers from Sri Lanka universities and representatives from national and international organisations were also present.
A book titled ‘Population Dynamics in Sri Lanka: Socio-economic and health perspectives’, published by the centre, was also launched at the event.
