Schools football kicks off on September 21

One hundred and twenty one schools will be in action from September 20 when they vie for the Milo Under 19 soccer title which is scheduled to get underway in several venues around the island.

The tournament is divided into three divisions and then selected based on previous year’s performances. The division one comprises of 20 teams divided into three groups while 35 from eight groups will contest in the second division and 66 teams make up the division three.

Last year Nestle Lanka Ltd who came in as sponsors after a lapse of seven years will again support it this time too and confirmed that they will continue their support in years to come. Defending champions St Benedict’s and runner up Zahira Colombo are the hot favourites again but they will face stiff opposition from some up and coming soccer playing schools.

The organizers said the venue and dates for the final round matches in the division two and three will depend on the schools that will qualify and sometimes the final might be played in an outstation venue.
The final round matches of the division one category will be played from October 29 to November 1 and the grand finale will be played on November 4 or 6 in Colombo.
