Grade 5 Scholarship Exam on August 4, GCE A/L starts August 5

The Examination Department will conduct the 2019 GCE Advanced Level (A/L) and Grade 5 Scholarship Exams from August 5 and August 4 respectively.

The Department said that it is in its last leg of distributing Admission cards for the GCE A/L 2019, with  admission forms already dispatched to students in the 10,175 schools islandwide, while ‘Private’ students will receive their cards next week.

In preparation for the exams, a ban on tuition classes for 1 week has been announced beginning midnight July 30 and July 31.

Accordingly, conducting subject oriented lectures, seminars or classes, printing exam model papers is banned, along with publicity through electronic media, posters and banners claiming to the provision of model questions to students.

Complaints against persons violating these regulations could be lodged with the nearest Police Station on 1911 or with the Examinations Department on 0112 784 208 / 0112 784 537.

About 337,700 students will sit the A/L exams at 2,678 centres. The exams will be conducted both under the new and old syllabus, with 198,229 for the new syllabus and 134,475 candidates for the old syllabus.

The Department said 255,529 children will sit for the Grade 5 Examination in the Sinhala medium and 83,840 children in the Tamil medium. - CC
