Gateway students visit France on Student Exchange Programme
View(s):As part of the annual exchange programme with College Saint Marie in Meaux, Paris; students of Gateway College toured France from 7th – 14th April 2019. Students in the Middle School, currently studying French language, participated in this programme. The tour comprised four nights in Paris and two nights in Normandy, during which the students had many interactive sessions with their French counterparts and were engaged in diverse educational activities with them. This programme was set in motion after the initial visit of a group from College Saint Marie in 2017. The programme exposes students to the French language and culture, which is a part of the curriculum, while allowing them to strengthen relationships with their French peers.
During their stay, students enjoyed several iconic sights such as the Eiffel Tower, Memorial de Caen (a museum and war memorial in Caen, Normandy, commemorating World War II and the Battle for Caen), Mont Saint Michel, the city of Honfleur, the museum of “Eugene Boudin” and the Louvre. In addition, students had the opportunity to cross the bay in Mont Saint Michel, go yacht sailing in the sand (land yachting) in Asnelles, Normandy and enjoy a boat ride in the River Seine. This tour, organised for the second consecutive year, was a great success as it provided students with valuable insights into the life and culture in France as well as the subtle nuances of the French language they so eagerly learn. The tour has become an annual event of the French club of Gateway and the school is committed to sustaining this link for the benefit of future students.
