Adding a state-of-the-art component that is a true mark of an international design campus, an Interior Design Product 3D Modelling Studio was launched for the Northumbria University UK Interior Design Degree at AOD International Design Campus. The studio is among the first of its kind in Sri Lanka that is specially set up for interior design students.

Students working with the aid of AOD’s international faculty

The American Interior Designer Joel Rapp, the leading international faculty member for Interior Design at AOD, pioneered to have the studio set up.Speaking on the subject, Mr. Rapp stated that the studio elevates the standards of the Northumbria University UK Interior Design Degree at AOD International Design Campus; “Essential to the designer’s work is knowledge of how that which we design will be produced. In design education, often the most difficult skill to teach young designers is that of understanding enough about the people at the other end of the process, the men and women who actually make their ideas into reality,” he said.

The studio is fully equipped with machinery and accompanying safety gear to enable students manufacture and mould interior design objects of their imagination. “In our new prototype workshop, AOD students will be given the chance to build the skills they need in order to draw up workable, financially viable plans that will allow them to flourish in the professional world. Every student will work hands on, actually making full-scale portions of the spaces that they design. Through this process of doing, not merely discussing, they will be engendered with the ability to truly visualize the manner in which their future pieces will be built as they are designing them,” concluded AOD’s interior design programme leader Joel Rapp.

The Northumbria University UK Interior design programme at AOD is an internationally acclaimed degree that can be fully completed in Sri Lanka, with global standards. This international degree programme hailing from the UK is currently accepting students for its 2013 intake at AOD.
