On 16th September Horizon College International celebrates four years of fruitful existence since its inception in September 2009.
Nestling in the salubrious climes and lush greenery of Malabe, Horizon College International stands out not only with its grand edifice but also has become a strong contender amongst the International schools in Sri Lanka.

Birth of Horizon

Horizon College International was the brain child of a passionate educationist with foresight Mr Upul Daranagama, who has 20 years of expertise in the field of education and corporate sector to his credit. His objective was to initiate an International school that caters to the needs of the country, delivering quality education on par with international standards in keeping with the goal of making Sri Lanka the educational hub in Asia.

Unique Horizon

Amongst the ubiquitous international schools in SL, Horizon stands unique. Why? you may ask, the answer is clear. Horizon sets its standards very high. Students’ discipline is given a prominent place, multi cultural and multi religious, co-ed atmosphere unparalleled facilities, starting from the eco friendly imported furniture and equipment to the holistic education provided with an array of subjects leading up to Edexcel IGCSE (London) Exams, University degree and Post Graduate courses to the highly qualified competent and caring staff members who inspire the students to perform to their optimum ability. The setting of the HCI reminds one of the French philosophers Jean Rousseau’s theory of education where he said ‘nature never deceives us’ if one keeps the child close to nature he will learn and benefit from it. The unique setting is complemented with all the modern facilities including IT lab, Science lab, Library, Music and Drama rooms, speech labs and for sports the Basketball courts, swimming pool (nearing completion), the cricket and athletic grounds (to be added in the near future). The lovely, comfortable and homely Child care centre is a bonus for the working parents. The transport service to and from school on 9 bus routes is another special facility availed to students and staff.

Achievements

Within 3 years the student population has grown rapidly into 1200 and counting, which is ample proof of the popularity of HCI and the confidence of the parents as they entrust their kids to the caring, friendly arms of HCI to nurture them.

41 students received gold medals, and three first places for speech at the Sri Lanka festival of Performing Arts competition held in 2013 and the Under 7 Dance troupe emerged all island winners, which speaks volumes of the standard of the performing arts taught with care at HCI.

HCI is proud to announce the opening of its first branch in Udahamulla, Nugegoda on 9th September.

Mrs Maryanne Hills- Principal of HCI, an erudite educationist with 37 years in the field of education and many feathers in her cap including a Masters in education from USA says with confidence ‘the popularity of Horizon has grown in a very short time, that’s proof that we are doing things right at Horizon, all levels of staff are caring and friendly, we stress on discipline and intend to produce totally equipped, law abiding citizens’ she beams exuding warmth and kindness.
