“My father was a doctor and wanted me to become one too. I was compelled to do Medicine, though it was not to my liking as my skills and dreams were elsewhere”, stated Dr. Dayan Rajapakse, Managing Director and CEO of ESOFT.

“My mother is a Lawyer, and had ambitions for me to become a doctor. I had no other choice though I had other career goals in mind”, stated, Dr. Punarjeewa Karunanayake, Executive Director and CEO, of ANC Education.

These real life sentiments were expressed to highlight the critical need for the exacting and specific career guidance, needed at the crucial time; at the Media briefing of the EDEX Mid-Year Expo, on September 3rd 2013 at the RCU Skills Centre, Colombo 07.
Dr. Rajapakse, who heads ESOFT, has earned for itself a reputed name for high-quality ICT and business education provider in Sri Lanka, offers youth an array of diploma and undergraduate programmes in Computing, IT, Business Management, Software Engineering and Engineering.

Dr. Rajapakse said he was in Badulla the day before, to open a branch office, and was aghast to observe that most parents were ill-informed and were in a dilemma as to what their children would do after their A/Ls.

He further observed, that many seemed to be aware of a doctor’s job and the prestige it entailed, as the doctor was a prominent figure in the village, but were ‘clueless’ on the alternate choices that were on offer.

He stressed the dire need to have more awareness, and allow freedom for students to follow their individualistic passions, which should ideally match their skills and abilities. Thus career guidance is a key tool to benefit rural youth, parents and other care-givers to be aware of broader options, than the commonplace ones in their daily life.

Dr. Karunanyake, who is at the helm of ANC Education, which commenced in 2002, provides higher education in cooperation with some of the world’s best universities, locally, and overseas in countries such as USA, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Malaysia, producing highly employable students to the market place, is passionate to offer quality education to youth.

Dr. Karunanayake emphasised the critical role of a parent, teacher, a principal, and career guidance counselors, as being catalyst in guiding the students, at the correct point.

He also noted that with a host of new opportunities in Sri Lanka in job trends, in areas such as the hospitality and tourism industry for example ANC Education was gearing itself to provide salient programmes to the youth, to take up the challenges of the future.
He also highlighted new and interesting educational programmes such as mobile communication technology, Law, and Medicine that have been added to ANC’s portfolio, complementing its ethos of “education without borders”.

Following on from the media and press launch held at the Royal College Union Skills Centre, ESOFT and ANC will join forces with EDEX Mid Year Expo, to offer timely career guidance and counselling.

Both Dr. Rajapakse and Dr. Karunanayake expressed their delight in supporting the Mid-Year Expo immediately after the A/L examination being held, and considered this to be a timely event and a real boon to thousands of students who have sat for their London O-Levels and GCE A- Level examinations and looking for numerous higher education options.

The EDEX Mid-Year Expo promises to live up to its theme and be a true Pathfinder.

The organisers offer discerning choices, options and opportunities, with over 100 local and international stall exhibitors scheduled to participate enabling the students who sat A/L this year to make an informed choice of their next step without wasting time till the results are out.

Spot admissions, discounts, free psychometric tests, individual career guidance and scholarships, both full and partial will make this Mid-Year Expo, an event not to be missed!
