Communication Skills Workshop for 2013 A’ Level Students
View(s):Colombo, Tuesday 3rd September 2013, corporate training firm YKG Associates announced a customised communication skills and business etiquette workshop for all those who have sat the 2013 Advanced Level examination. Speaking at the announcement, YKG Associates Managing Director and Corporate Trainer Yukthi Gunasekera explained, “Effective communication skills will determine your child’s success in higher education and in the world of work. Today all youth have paper qualifications (CIMA, CIM, BA, BSc, MA, etc.); therefore these qualifications will not differentiate your child. However, training in effective communication skills will give your child the edge he or she needs to stand out from the crowd and succeed. Needless to say, effective communication skills will also help your child in his or her personal and social life – to lead a happy life.”
The Workshop is based on classic Aristotelian wisdom: “we learn best by doing”. The workshop will give hands-on training in public speaking, writing, and business etiquette: participants will learn these skills by doing, not by taking down notes. Speeches and role-plays will be video-recorded and played back to enhance learning. The workshop will be led by a facilitator who has taught public speaking for over 10 years, and been a practitioner of public speaking for over 25 years. Therefore, participant-teacher interaction is guaranteed – not merely stated as a request at the beginning of the workshop.
Furthermore, participation from start to finish in all 4 sessions will entitle a participant to a certificate. The certificate will be issued only to participants who attend all four (4) sessions in full (i.e. from start to finish of each session). And, the participants will not learn on a hungry stomach: refreshments will be served!

Yukthi Gunasekera is a communications professional with over 25 years of experience in public speaking. He has more than 10 years of experience as a trainer in public speaking and presentation skills. Having earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and German from Berea College, USA, Yukthi is a law graduate from the University of Minnesota Law School, USA. He also holds a post-graduate diploma in marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK. Encompassing over 10 years of experience in corporate communication at IBM Sri Lanka and John Keells Holdings PLC, Yukthi is currently a corporate trainer and runs his own corporate training firm YKG Associates.
