Sri Lankan obtains first PhD in plant neurobiology

Dr Padmakantha Wanduragala has been reported to have obtained the 1st PhD in plant neurobiology. According to information gathered so far there is no scientist who has obtained a PhD in plant neurobiology.The subject of plant neurobiology was introduced by Charles Darwin 130 years ago in 1880. Afterwards there had been no scientist who has delt in depth in this subject. Dr Padmakantha Wanduragala has been working on this since 1984 when he was a student at the Botany Deparment , University of Peradeniya, Sri lanka. The PhD thesis of his and the concept was totally developed by him. He obtained his PhD from the Post Graduate Institute of Agriculture (PGIA) ,University of Peradeniya,Sri lanka.

He is an old boy of Maliyadeva college Kurunegala and the son of Mr Felix Wanduragala and late Mrs Muriel Wanduragala of Wanduragala, Kurunegala.
