Creating history each year by recognizing exceptional local ICT innovations and achievements, the National Best Quality ICT Awards (NBQSA) competition will mark its fifteenth anniversary on 17th October this year. NBQSA Participants Briefing was held in University of Colombo School of Computing Auditorium on 12th August. The audience comprised of around 49 Commercial Category competitors from the Sri Lankan IT Sector. The panel comprised of Mr. M.G Tillakeratne, Chairman of BCSSL, Mr. Ruwan Amarasekara, Secretary of BCSSL, Mr. Vajeendra S. Kandegamage, Chairman of NBQSA 2013 and Prof. Gihan Wikramanayake, Chief Judge of NBQSA 2013. Welcome speech was given by Vajeendra S. Kandegamage followed by the Introduction to NBQSA and the Judging Process conducted jointly by Prof. Gihan Wikramanayake and Mr. Ruwan Amarasekara. Mr. Ruwindhu Peiris from SLASSCOM, expressed his views on Entrepreneur award and invited to nominate yourself or any of rising stars you know to the award. He also mentioned that registration for the award can be done through online submission.

The Judges Briefing of NBQSA 2013 was held on 16th August at Hotel Galadari. During the briefing session Prof. Gihan noted expectations from the judging panel namely, Knowledge in their respective fields, Having CITP or above qualification, Confidentiality, Impartiality and Familiarization with the Code of Conduct for Judges and adhering to abide by the Code of Conduct.

Judging will be held at the Skills Center of Royal College Union in Rajakeeya Mawatha, Colombo 07. Explaining the judging criteria, Prof. Gihan Wikramanayake explained that judges will have to look for Uniqueness, Features, Quality/ Application of Technology and Presentation.

The winners will be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards and the final score for a product should be 60% or greater to be considered for any of the awards. Gold will be awarded for competitors who receive 70% or more, Silver for competitors who receive 65% or more and Bronze for competitors who gain 60% or more marks. Merit Awards will be awarded for entries which achieve Bronze Award level scores or higher in a category, but unable to win Gold, Silver or Bronze awards as due to products with higher scores in the category. Judges will have to nominate entries for these awards.

This year too NBQSA has received a large number of applications from over 146 Tertiary and Commercial competitors. Commercial Judging Process will start from 29th of August and the expertise of the judging panel has been proven during the past years by NBQSA winners achieving awards in Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA). This year to NBQSA Winners will have the privilege of competing in a global arena at APICTA Awards from 24th to 27th November in Hong Kong.

BCS The Chartered Institute for IT, United Kingdom is the main sponsor of NBQSA. The event is annually organized by the BCS The Chartered Institute for IT Sri Lanka Section (BCSSL). This year too, several organizations have come forward to support this laudable National cause. ICTA has joined hands with NBQSA as the National Partner since 2009. Endorsing the National contribution and popularity of the NBQSA event,

IFS and HNB have come forward as Silver Sponsors while 3M and Fentons have joined as Bronze Sponsors. WSO2 has endorsed NBQSA as the Special Award Sponsor for Open Source Category and Domain LK Registry as Special Award Sponsor for Best Application with Local Content. SLASCOM has come forward as the special award sponsor for ICT Entrepreneurship award.

LankaCom continues to join hands as the Print Media Partner while Enet Lanka is also joining hands with NBQSA this year as the Official Email Broadcasting Service Provider. University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) also continues to partner as the Official Facility Provider for NBQSA 2013.
