Reigning world champion Nushantha Fernando impressed in India

SAARC Carrom Championship which was in Kolkata, India.
India won the championship in team events on both men’s and women’s categories with Sri Lanka emerging runners-up followed by Maldives in both categories. In the men’s singles, reigning world champion Nishantha Fernando beat Indian Sandeep Dewrukkar while in an all-India face off Rashmi Kumari beat Kavita Somanchi to win the women’s singles.
Sri Lankan pair Chamil Cooray and Nishantha Fernando beat Indians Yogesh Paradeshi and K. Srinivas in the men’s doubles while Chalani Lakmali and Joseph Roshita of Sri Lanka beat Indians Rashmi Kumari and I. Ilahvalaki to win the women’s doubles. Indians Sandeep Dewrukkar and Kavita Somanchi paired up to beat Sri Lankans Brindley Wickramasinghe and Yashika Rahubadda to win the mixed doubles event. – NA

Women’s singles: Rashmi Kumari (IND) beat Kavita Somanchi 2-1 (23/25, 25/15, 25/19).
Men’s doubles: Chamil Cooray and Nishantha Fernando (SL) beat Yogesh Paradeshi and K. Srinivas (IND) 2-1 (10/25, 25/24, 25/22).Women’s doubles: Chalani Lakmali and Joseph Roshita (SL) beat Rashmi Kumari and I. Ilahvalaki (IND) 2-0 (25/15, 25/14)
