Pradeep retains sea swim title

Pradeep Sanjaya of the Southern Water Sports Club in Matara proved his supremacy by winning his second consecutive boys’ title for the one kilometer sea swim, organized by the Southern Water Sports Club and the Life Saving Unit of the Matara Police, at Polhena on May 5.

The first three places in the men’s championship remained unchanged from the inaugural event, while Madushi Hansika stole the title from last year’s winner Apeksha Kalupahana. Ten-year old Vihanga Dilmini of Sujatha Girls’ School finished third. 20 boys and 10 girls faced the starter this year.

Men’s championship

1. Pradeep Sanjaya (Southern Water Sports Club, Matara)
2. Sanjeewa Sampath (Southern Water Sports Club, Matara)
3. Isuru Sampath (Southern Water Sports Club, Matara)

Women’s championship

1. Madushi Hansika (Southern Water Sports Club, Matara)
2. Apeksha Kalupahana (Southern Water Sports Club, Matara)
3. Vihanga Dulmini (Sujatha Girls School, Matara)
