The President of the Sri Lankan Cricketers Association Ken de Alwis says that it was the present Sri Lanka cricket captain Angelo Mathews who voted at the ICC Cricket Committee (ICCCA) voting on both occasions. He also stressed that at no point was the previous captain Mahela Jayawardena involved in this voting matter.

He said “We were in contact with Mathews via e-mail as he is currently in India taking part in the Indian Premier League tournament. We contacted him regarding the ICC vote. Mathews replied stating that he already had voted on both occasion, but did not indicate to us as to whom he had caste his vote.”

The cricket world was on fire last week when the Chief Executive of the Federation of International Cricketers Association President Tim May alleged that there had been pressure exerted on certain captains to cast their votes for certain individuals. In the fray were the incumbent ICCCA members Kumar Sangakkara and Tim May along with the BCCI nominee Lakshman Sivaramakrishnan.
After two rounds of votes it was revealed that Tim May had been replaced by Lakshman Sivaramakrishnan, while Sangakkara retained his seat. Now the committee will retain their seats up to 2015 – for three years.

Tim May a very outspoken person had been very vociferous on various issues on player rights. On one instance he was very critical on the Sri Lanka Premier League tournament organisers when player payments were delayed in the aftermath of the tournament. When asked the President of Sri Lanka Cricket Jayantha Dharmadasa on the issue he said “We do not recognise the Federation of International Cricketers Association. However I can not comment further on the matter because it was the secretary Nishantha Ranatunga who was handling the matter”.

However Ranatunga was away in India and was not available for comment. The acting CEO of SLC Ashley de Silva is also overseas at present.

Though the cricketers are members of the Sri Lankan Cricketers Association Sri Lanka Cricket has its own differences with the organisation.
