Beating their opponents by at least two lengths at the boat race the crews of University of Moratuwa emerged champions of this yearsregatta for Sri Lanka University Games, yesterday.

The crews of the University of Colombo (UOC) and the University of Moratuwa (UOM) battled against each other for the success on the waters of the Beira Lake.

Thilina Thotahewa and his crew from UOM clinched the men’s title winning all their races in the A and B categories of the single sculls, pairs, and fours events, leaving their opponents trailing in their ‘wake’ with a victory of 42-0 over the crew of UOC.ShauriHettiarachchi and her girls from UOM won the overall women’s trophy beating their opponents by winning all the A category events, however the ladies form UOC gave them a run for their money, winning all the B category events.

New coach of UOM Chamal Jayaneththi said that he with the win “This is the reward for four months of grueling training. The guys and girls performed extremely well and both Maheel and I are proud of them. I have to thank Maheel Gamage, who coached the crew from 2002; it is mostly his hard work that made the crew this good.”
