It is great to be 80 years old and Ian reached this milestone on 15th March 2013. Let me wish him good health, long life, peace and happiness. I was sorry as I could not be present with him on his 80th Birthday, on the day of celebration due to personal reasons which I conveyed to him.

As a Cricketer, he achieved success in School, playing for Cambridge University, S.S.C. and Sri Lanka. I always used to admire his bowling as a medium fast bowler, where he used to move the ball both ways so well He also led the S.S.C. in the Saravanamuttu Trophy Matches and I will never forget that every time we won a match, he used to invite the whole Team for dinner at his residence.
P.I. Pieris was the President of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board and he performed his tasks so well, since he was a Cricketer who played at the highest level and an administrator where he could stand on his own feet to face any situation. He was the Deputy Chairman of Richard Pieris & Company and many a time he used to oblige me by helping in getting urgent Rubber Machinery Parts made at the Factory in Navinna.

I am sure every Cricketer who played during Ian’s time, will remember him for what he did to make Cricket a gentleman’s game.
