A journey from a toddler to a young man or woman is what most people would describe their school lives. I too do state the same, however in between this time, you build multiple skills, attributes and habits that structure the rest of our lives. I believe that my 14 years in Wycherley was similar to a seedling being watered everyday till I became a tree and I would consider each branch a lesson.

I joined Wycherley at the age of four and I can still remember my first friends, my first teacher and fond memories of sitting in the

front porch of the school, waiting to be picked up to go home, while the Security Guard kept a close eye on us. The Kindergarten years were always a lot of fun, mostly play time and I developed my simple skills in Arithmetic and Sentence formation at the same time. Then Grade1…. and you took the pride of wearing Wycherley’s Grey Uniform and learning to sing the School Song. These factors embodied my identity and also love towards the school.

Years used to fly, and every Grade had its lessons and memories, the little fights with your friends, the yearly school trip, and the Annual Sports Meet. The Annual School Academic Calendar for each year was always planned for you and it was so for the 12 years of my life at Wycherley. I took each year with new excitement. During each year, teachers in Wycherley highlighted your strengths and gave feedbacks on weaknesses. Physical education was my best class, where we used to just play basketball; it was a lot of fun. All of us fell and bruised ourselves but we didn’t care, it was a time when indirectly you showed passion for Sport.

School was never over at 1:30 pm. There were Sports practices in December and January and then Cricket practices between January and April, where we used to bask in the mid-day temperatures at the Shalika Grounds till sunset. There were disappointments on the way, not scoring well at a Cricket Match, not doing well in an examination, but the School moulded us to stand up once again.
Senior School time arrived and we all began to realise the stress of examinations.

Though these were tough times, competition in School was encouraged in the true spirit which allowed us all to strive harder. I still can’t thank enough, the teachers that made Wycherley what it is today, a few including the Principal, Mr. Kingsley Jayasinghe, Mrs.Coomaraswamy, Mrs Nalliah and Miss Marasinghe.

I graduated from Wycherley in 2006 and then completed Medicine at the University of Leicester in 2011.I still keep in touch with most of my School friends and hope we have a full batch re-union in the near future.

Though University life was good, I believe my School Years thus far are the best years of my life and the bonds created with my friends and teachers are everlasting.
