Rising young female tennis star, Nethmi Waduge, once again proved her mastery on the court, this time in the Junior Fed Cup Pre-Qualifying tournament in Kuching Malaysia, where she roared to victory in all of her five singles matches.
Nethmi had wins over Iran’s Elaheh Bonab (6-3, 6-0), Jordan’s Rama Bageen (6-1, 6-2), Kyrgyzstan’s Arina Beliaeva (6-1, 6-2), Pakistan’s Iman Qureshi (6-3, 6-2) and Kazakhstan’s Gozal Ainitdinova (7-6 (7), 6-2). Nethmi also added to her doubles’ credentials, teaming up with Kavindya De Silva to dispose of Iran’s Ghazal Pakbaten and Jasmi Agha (6-1, 6-0); Pakistan’s Iman Qureshi and Rida Khalid (6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (8) and Kazakhstan’s Darya Shevchenko and Assel Jumamukhambetova (6-1, 6-1).
This performance bolsters what was a stellar tennis season for Nethmi in 2012, which saw her winning multiple age group titles at the Cinnamon Lakeside Open Tennis Championship, the Queen’s/ Gymkhana Club Open Tennis tournament and the Cosmopolitan Open Ranking Tennis competition. DS
