Achievers dribbles way to basketball bounty

The Achievers Lanka Business School is at the pinnacle of inter- institute basketball, having strongly announced their presence during the 2013 season by emerging champions in the Colombo University Sports Festival and the Inter- Institute Basketball tournament organized by Informatics.

The team attributes their success to the immense support they receive from the management of the institute. Achievers is a professional educational institution which is renowned for helping sportsmen and women focus and excel in the avenues of education and sports. The Achievers men’s and women’s teams consist of two present national players and three national youth players.

Achievers’ men’s and women’s teams beat Moratuwa University to enter the finals of the Colombo University Sports Festival, where they were met by very formidable sides from the University of Colombo. Both teams were victorious in their matches, with the women’s team taking the game with a 29-21 scoreline while the institute’s male players enjoyed a more emphatic 40-21 triumph.
The Most Valuable Players for the two segments were both awarded to Achiever, with Solange Gunawijaya taking the women’s trophy and Praneeth Udumalagala taking the men’s award.

Men’s team:-Marlon Cabandugama (Captain), Praneeth Udumalagala, Clinton Stallone, Rakitha De Silva, Ruchira Naotunna, Madushanka Rathnayake, Mohamed Razeem, Azeem Ameen, Anjana Vithanage, Kavindu Deraniyagala, Sahan De Alwis, Jared Fernando, Mohamed Rishan, Lakitha Rajakaruna, Elija Sinthaby, Ashane Fernando.

Women’s team:-Solange Gunewijaya (Captain),Thushani Rajapakse, Asanki Wickramarathne, Vinuri Ranasinghe, Jayani Nugi, Kaushika Warnasuriya, Swairee Fernando, Dedunu Liyanage.

The Achievers team is coached by former national player and Royal College Captain Roshan Samidon.
