Many students are unfit due to over-coaching and participation in too many matches, says a committee which probed present school cricket activities.

The committee, appointed by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, says this situation is causing an adverse effect in schoolchildren’s education, growth and future.

The committee also pointed out that another drawback in school cricket is the lack of turf wickets, which are not up to the required standard. The committee stressed that this is due to a lack of financial resources, preventing the proper maintenance of such turf wickets.
