A seven-day exposition of sacred relics of the Buddha will take place at the Gangaramaya Temple, Colombo, coinciding with Independence Day celebrations.

The relics which had been discovered in the Aravalli region of Gujarat will be exhibited from February 04 to 11.

The relics are scheduled to be brought into the country through Bandaranaike International Airport on February 04 and then taken to Gangaramaya for viewing by devotees.

This is in keeping with the pledge made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Sri Lanka in April last year when he announced that the Sacred Relics of Lord Buddha would be sent to Sri Lanka for an exposition.

Gangaramaya is preparing to host the exposition and are making final arrangements even while preparing for the Navam Perahera held this week.

The exposition will begin on the evening of Independence Day on February 4 with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake leading the devotees.

Special security measures and transport arrangements will be in place for the exposition.
