HOPE 2025 by AIESEC: Bridging the Digital Divide for Sri Lanka’s Rural Students

Recognising this gap, AIESEC in the University of Moratuwa has stepped forward with its annual community service initiative, HOPE 2025 (Helping Others with Purpose and Empowerment). This year the project will focus its efforts on Maputugala Maha Vidyalaya, aiming to bridge the digital divide by donating much-needed computers and conducting educational IT sessions.
For many students in rural Sri Lanka, exposure to modern technology is a luxury. Limited resources, inadequate infrastructure, and lack of access to computers create barriers that affect not only classroom learning but also long-term career prospects. With industries and workplaces increasingly reliant on digital literacy, this gap threatens to widen the inequality between rural and urban youth.
As part of this year’s initiative, computers for the computer lab will be donated to the school, giving its students access to modern technology that many of them have never had the chance to use before.
