Ninety percent of smart boards of the 1,000 received from the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) have been installed in schools, and work should commence within a month as part of the schools’ connectivity project, Deputy Minister of Education Madura Seneviratne said.
In addition, around 500 smart boards received from the Chinese government too will be dispatched to rural schools, he said. The boards were given in July-August last year.

The basic infrastructure facilities such as fibre lines have been installed, he said. He added that this project will connect schools in Colombo with rural schools and students will be able to connect with classrooms across the different areas. This would also help overcome problems caused by teacher shortages as students can access the classrooms of other schools, he added. (DWI)
