HackHive 2025: Showcasing the Next Generation of Sri Lankan Innovators

The Past Prefects’ Association of Zahira College successfully hosted the Presentation and Award Day of HackHive 2025, a national-level hackathon designed to empower Ordinary Level and Advanced Level students across Sri Lanka through hands-on IT and innovation experiences.
The hackathon featured two key phases that included Coding Day on 19th September 2025. Here the student teams engaged in an intense full-day coding session and developing innovative solutions to real-world problems with the guidance of mentors and industry experts.
The presentation of awards took place on the 20th September 2025 in which teams showcased their projects before a panel of judges. Awards were presented recognising their creativity, technical expertise, problem-solving abilities and outstanding talents.
The Chief Guest for the Award Day was Ms. M.A. Vasana Surangi Edirirsuriya, Additional Secretary (IT and Digital Education) of the Ministry of Education.
The distinguished guests included Ms. P.S. Sadamali – Deputy Director, Education & ICT Branch, Mr. Trizviiy Marikkar – Principal, Zahira College, Mr. Fouzul Hameed – Chairman of the Board of Governors Zahira College, Mr. Rushdi Hadhi – Senior Manager, Startup Ecosystem Development, ICTA, Mr. Bimal Gunapala - Board Director SLASSCOM, Mr. Hasanthi Kahandawala – Senior Manager, SLASSCOM, and Mr. Abith Latiff - COO, SpectrifyAI (Pvt) Ltd.
The programme commenced with a Welcome Speech by Mr. Ahsan Munaf, President of the Past Prefects’ Association of Zahira College, who emphasised the Association’s commitment to empowering youth through technology and innovation.
The event saw active participation from schools across Sri Lanka, including: Amal International School – Colombo, Nalanda College – Colombo, WP/C/Khairiya Girls College Colombo – Zahira College – Colombo, WP/CO/Darussalaam College – Colombo, Gateway College – Colombo, Trinity College – Kandy, T/Orr’s Hill Vivekananda College – Trincomalee, Madeena Maha Vidyalaya – Kandy, Al-Ashraq National School – Nintavur, Baduriya Central College – Kandy, Science College – Moratuwa, IES international College – Polonnaruwa, Highlands College – Maharagama and St. Peter’s College – Colombo.
Code Crakers Team, Zahira College, Colombo won the 1st place while Team Trinity Syntax – Trinity College, Kandy and Code Crakers Team – T/T/Orr’s Hill Vivekananda College emerged as 1st and 2nd runners-up respectively.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. Ishfaaq Ismath, Project Chairman, who expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education, ICTA, SLASSCOM, the college administration, mentors, sponsors, and participants for making HackHive 2025 a resounding success.
