Historic Achievement: Gonsalvez College, Bolawatta Secures 3rd Place at All Island Western Music & Dance Competition 2025

Gonsalvez College, Bolawatta, in the Wennappuwa Education Division of the Chilaw Education Region, made history by securing 3rd place at the All Island level in the Mixed Instrumental (Category A2) section of the All Island Western Music & Dance Competition, organized by the Aesthetic Branch of the Ministry of Education, this year.
This remarkable achievement is especially noteworthy as the students, who do not study Western Music as a formal subject and are trained by their Sinhala language teacher, were able to perform at an All Island standard and earn a national level victory.
The college also shone at the North Western Provincial Level under Category A2, securing 2nd place in the Melodica Group (Senior Boys), 3rd place in the Melodica Group (Junior Girls), 3rd place in the Chamber Group (Open), while Miss Lasandi Nimduni achieved 4th place in the Recorder Solo (Junior).
In 2022 and 2023, Gonsalvez College participated consecutively in the Western Music & Dance Competitions. The participants were able to achieve 6 All Island 1st places in the categories they competed in. Considering that resources and facilities available to these students were minimal, it is a remarkable achievement to have reached this level, competing against schools that offer Western Music as a formal subject.
This accomplishment was made possible by the enthusiasm and talent of the students, combined with the dedicated training and guidance of their Sinhala Language teacher, Mr. Suneth Jayasanka, and the motivation and encouragement provided by the school Principal, Mr. Geeth Fernando.
