Dateway College proudly celebrates the stellar achievements of three of its outstanding students—Rumika Perera (13 Grade 9s), Sajika Wickramaratne (12 Grade 9s), and Jaanya Kumarawadu (11 Grade 9s)—at the Edexcel International GCSE Examination 2025.

These exceptional results not only place them among the very best internationally but also showcase the all-rounded education that Gateway strives to provide, where academic excellence is complemented by leadership, sports, and co-curricular achievements.

Rumika Perera

Securing the top international result of 13 Grade 9s, Rumika has combined academic distinction with strong leadership. He currently serves as Solomon House Captain and President of the Math Society, and is a former Athletics Captain. He has also been recognised at the Sri Lanka Model United Nations (SLMUN) with both Honorary Mention and Higher Commendation awards.

Sajika Wickramaratne

With 12 Grade 9s, Sajika has distinguished himself not only as a scholar but also as a leader and performer. A talented chorister and Secretary of the Choir Club, he has also excelled as a compere at numerous school events. Sajika has held leadership roles as President of the Maths Club and the Christian Society and proudly represented Gateway and Sri Lanka at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2022.

Jaanya Kumarawadu

Achieving 11 Grade 9s, Jaanya stands out as an exceptional all-rounder. She placed 3rd at the Sri Lanka Mathematical Olympiad 2023 and won a bronze medal at the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad. In sports, she has achieved national and international recognition in rowing—winning the School Girl’s Trophy at the National Rowing Championship 2025 and representing Sri Lanka at events including the Junior Asian Rowing Championship (Thailand), Asian Indoor Rowing Junior Championship (Malaysia), and the
Asian Rowing Championship (China). She has also brought honour to the
school in swimming, securing medals
at the International Schools
Swimming Championship.

The accomplishments of Rumika, Sajika, and Jaanya reflect Gateway College’s vision of nurturing leaders of the future—students who combine academic excellence with character, creativity, and global recognition.
