New Kandy Mayor to regulate the rambling chock-a-block city

The 26th mayor of the historic city of Kandy, Chandrasiri Wijenayake, is to introduce the GPS system to track the movement of municipality vehicles to maintain better efficiency and keep expenditure at a minimum.

The National People’s Power Mayor Wijenayake who was given a rousing reception at the historic Town Hall also said he would be discussing ways and means to combat traffic congestion and find a system for the public to not be inconvenienced waiting long periods for public transport. He added that he would immediately discuss ways and means to give ratepayers and those who visit Kandy a better experience of the hill capital.

Mayor Wijenayake is a graduate of the University of Peradeniya and a former teacher. Earlier he addressed the Officers of the Council at the Town Hall.
