The Coast Conservation and Costal Resources Management Department this week removed some 24 illegal constructions located in Hiriketiya, Dickwella in the Matara district.

The constructions had been put up within 10 meters of the beach in the area in a manner causing an obstruction to the users of the beach.

Prior notice had been given to remove the structures, but the relevant persons had ignored the orders.

Deputy Inspector General of Police for Matara and Hambantota Division Nishantha Soysa, Senior Superintendent of Police for Matara, Vikum Ginige and the Officer in Charge of the Dickwella Police station L. P. B. Samarasinghe were present.

Meanwhile, several unauthorised structures in the Pottuvil area too were removed earlier in the week.

The Department has planned to clean up several other beach front areas by removing the unauthorised structures.
