Immunoglobulin case: Trial-at-Bar indicts Keheliya and 11 others

The Attorney General has indicted 12 accused including former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella before a three-judge bench of the Colombo High Court Trial-at-Bar on 13 charges relating to the importation of substandard immunoglobulin injections.

The accused have been indicted on charges of criminal misappropriation of Rs. 147 million and aiding and abetting the crime.

Chief Justice Murdu Fernando has appointed the three-judge High Court Trial-at-Bar to hear the case following a request by Attorney General Parinda Ranasinghe. Accordingly, the case will be taken up before the bench comprising High Court Judges Mahesh Weeraman, Amali Ranaweera and Pradeep Abeyratne.

The charges state that the accused had conspired to use funds received under the Indian Line of Credit to purchase the substandard immunoglobulin injections.

Aside from Mr. Rambukwella, the other accused in the case are Janaka Fernando, Kapila Wickramanayake, S. Solomons, Niranga Dhananjaya, Sujith Wasantha, Janaka Chandraguptha, Dharmasiri Herath, Jayanath Bukpitiya, Saman Rathnayaka, Thusitha Sudarshana and V. Gunasekara. Most of the accused are Health Ministry officials.
