Sri Lanka U19 rout Australia U19 by 86 runs

Under 19 Quadrangular Series

The Sri Lanka Under 19 coasted to their second win of the Under 19 Quadrangular tournament being played in Visakhapatnam, India when they routed their Australian counterparts by a massive 86 runs in the match played at the ACD-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam yesterday.

The heroes of the Sri Lanka team were right hand batsman Lahiru Madusanka hailing from St. Thomas Matale and leg spinner Saranga Rajaguru of St. Anthony’s Katugastota along with Tharindu Kaushal another outstation cricketer coming from Devapathiraja MV Rathgama. Lahiru and Tharindu were the first to guide Sri Lanka when the pair saved the side when they struggling on 44 for 4 in the ninth over. The top order batting apart from opener Niroshan Dickwella the others failed to make any impression.

Lahiru remained unbeaten on 56 from 77 balls with two boundaries and a six while useful contributions in the latter part of the innings from Sanitha de Mel and Amila Aponso enabling the side to make a modest score of 225. The Australia U19 side got off to sedate start with openers Kurtis Patterson and Cameron Bancroft putting on 36 runs but they faltered later in the innings and at the halfway stage of the innings were struggling on 88 for 4.

They never recovered from there on as leg spinner Rajaguru wrapped up the tail with a quick three wicket haul to send Australia reeling from 125 for 6 to 135 for 9 and Rajaguru hit the final nail on the coffin to bundle them out for 139. Rajaguru ended with impressive figures of 4 for 28 while Tharindu who has had a good tour so far finished with figures of 2 for 15. The quadrangular tournament features four teams Sri Lanka, Australia, West Indies and host India. Sri Lanka won their first match against West Indies but went down fighting to India in a cliff hanger by one wicket. Sri Lanka will next play host India on Monday (October 3).
