Souls Sounds Academy to compete in Wales

“Sri Lanka has once again been given the opportunity to shine at a prestigious International Competition in Wales in July this year” says Soundari David, director of world renowned Soul Sounds Choir.
The children’s choir, The Soul Sounds Academy Choir, has been accepted to compete in the Senior Children’s Choir Category at the competition in Wales which will be held on July 6.

The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfodhttp. (www.llangollen2010.co.uk) is a six- day competition and festival of music, dance, and song that takes place every year in the Welsh town of Llangollen. Since it was established in 1947, many prominent musician of our time have participated in the competition- a few include Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Kiri Te Kanawa, Lesley Garrett, Bryn Terfel and Dennis O’Neil.

“This is the first time for a junior choir to compete internationally,” shares Soundarie, “the children are excited about it, of course, they have always been in awe of Soul Sounds, the seniors and their achievements, so they are happy that they too could get an opportunity to prove themselves, over and above, most importantly the experience to compete, and to listen to some of the World’s best choir compete on an international stage”.

Llangellen 2010 will be held from the July 5 to 11 at Wales. Soundarie says she bit nervous, but to her, it is all about giving the young children a chance. “Believe me it has been tough, not just the singing and making sure they are up to standard, but also fund raising for this.

Not many sponsors were able to come forward, so it has been extremely hard on the parents, however we are extremely grateful to Emirates our official airline, MAS Intimates, Mercantile Investments, Colombo Stock Exchange and a few others who came forward to help us,” she says, adding “God willing we will do Sri Lanka proud”.
