Individuals' Teams emerge winners at the TMC WISDOM 2008 Quiz……
 

A packed house was witness to a team of extra ordinarily talented quizzers led by Mahesha Weerasinha grab the honours and walking away with the WISDOM Challenge Trophy and Rs 50,000/- in cash plus certificates, at TMC's WISDOM 2008 Quiz Competition held last Saturday 13th September at the Galle Face Hotel. The first and second runners up positions were also secured by two teams of individuals led by Indika Jayasinghe and Riyad Rifai respectively. They won cash awards of Rs 30,000/= Rs 20,000/= each in addition to certificates of excellence. Wisdom 2008 was open to 04 sectors - Schools & Educational Institutions, Mercantile Firms, Banks & Financial Institutions & Teams of Individuals. There were 34 teams who took part at this quiz organized by The Management Club (TMC) for the third year in succession.

Conducted as a team event with 05 members in each team the questions were based on five subjects - Current Affairs, Sports, General Knowledge, Space & Astronomy & Arts/Literature and Entertainment - with each round consisting of 10 questions. After a tough battle with two tie-breakers, the schools category award was won by Royal College "A' team. Dialog Telekom emerged the best among Mercantile firms whilst Seylan Bank emerged winners in the Banking sector. The sector award for the Individuals' category was also won by Mahesha Wirasinha's team.

Leading schools such a-s Ananda, Nalanda, Royal, Stafford International, Wycherly International as well as a team from the Colombo Medical Faculty, competed on an equal basis with teams of 10 top companies representing the Mercantile sector, 9 teams from Banks and 8 teams formed by individuals, at Wisdom 2008.

Every contestant was presented with a certificate of participation, a unique feature in TMC's WiISDOM series, and trophies and certificates of excellence were awarded to the 04 sector winners.
A high standard was maintained as usual - in keeping with the title of the event - the ultimate quiz challenge - and the quiz was conducted by Ruwan Senanayake, Sri Lanka's representative of the International Quizzing Association UK, who is also a founder member of TMC, now their Official Quiz Master.

With 30 seconds to answer each question and an extra minute at the end of each round given to participants to review their answers The Management Club aims to enhance the knowledge base and memory power of teenagers to help them manage time in any career they choose in later years while also grooming young executives at middle management levels to arrive at quick decisions as and when situations demand.

TMC hopes to repeat the WISDOM Quiz Competition next September too.
