Marco Perera, lone crusader of GK depositors ends death fast
View(s):Jude Marco Perera, President of the GK Depositors Hope and Solidarity Organisation, who staged a fast-onto-death protest outside the residence of former Ceylinco chairman Lalith Kotelawela was arrested Thursday on a complaint made by Mr. Kotelawala of blocking the entrance to his residence and prevented the residents from coming out or going in, Bambalapitiya police said.
Mr. Perera told the Business Times that he started the protest to persuade Mr. Kotelawala to find some redress for disgruntled depositors.
He was produced before the Colombo Magistrate Court and the Additional Magistrate released him on personnel bail of Rs. 100,000, he said adding that the court had listened to his submissions sympathetically and postponed the case to December 19.
Mr. Perera noted that he is fighting on behalf of all depositors who are silently suffering as a result of selfish actions of so called top office bearers of the Golden Key depositors associations who were given director posts in the revived GK Credit Card Company to implement the Central Bank’s repayment plan.
