The all island under 15 boys and girls hockey championships 2013 concluded at Astro turf in Matale produced two joint champions, Nalanda college Colombo and Vijaya college Matale in the boys’ segment and Seethadevi Kandy and Sirimavo Bandaranayaka girls Colombo in the girls championship.

Boys joint champions-the two captains Bodhitha Dias (Nalanda) and Sachith Weerasingha (Vijaya) receiving the boys championship trophy from the chief guest Dampiya Wanasinghe principal St Thomas College Matale and President of SLSHA.

The adverse weather conditions-heavy rain with gusts of wind-which lasted over three hours in the afternoon forced the organizing committee to abandon the two finals (boys and girls) and declare the finalists as joint champions.

Nalanda and Vijaya made their way in to the boy’s final with wins over Sri Sumangala College Kandy and St Aloysius College Galle in the respective semifinals. Nalanda beat Sri Sumangala 7-6 on penalties while Vijaya outplayed St Aloysius Galle by 1-0 with Sachith Weerasingha netting the winning goal.

Sri Sumangala Kandy won the boys 3rd place as they beat St Aloysius 3-2 on penalties after the scores read two all at full time in the consolation final.

Girls’ championship- Seethadevi Kandy and Sirimavo Bandaranayaka school Colombo qualified for the finals with wins over St Joseph Balika Kegalle and

Girls joint champions- the two captains Pragathi Jayaweera (Sirimavo Colombo) and Charuka Aberathne (Seethadevi) receiving girls championship trophy from the chief guest.

Janadhipathi Balika Nawala with penalty shoot outs. Seethadevi beat St Joseph Balika 4-1 on penalties after the game ended scoreless at full time while Sirimavo Bandaranayaka Balika beat Janadhipathi Balika 2-1 on penalties after the score read one all at full time.

In the decider for the 3rd place Janadhipathi Balika outplayed St Joseph Balika 2-0.

The four day tournament conducted by SLSHA together with Matale schools hockey committee saw 34 boys and 32 girls teams from Colombo, Kandy, Matale, Kegalle, Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle, Badulla and Jaffna educational regions taking part.
