steer Kandurata Maroons to a 14 run win over Ruhuna Reds in the second match of the Inter-Provincial T20 cricket tournament played at R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.

The pair shared five wickets between them helping the side bowl to restrict Ruhuna Reds in pursuit of 160 runs to restrict them to a score of 146. Dhammika made the breakthrough in his first over after Dilhara Lokuhettige and Shehan Jayasuriya had got rid T.M. Dilshan and Kusal Perera who continued his failure.

Dhammika first got rid of Jehan Mubarak in the first ball and then four balls later Seekkuge Prasanna to have Ruhuna Reds struggling on 34 for 4 in the sixth over.

This was followed by some resistance put in by Angelo Perera and Yasoda Lanka who together added 41 runs for the fifth wicket before being separated with Angelo’s dismissal having made a 21 ball knock of 25.

Even thought there were some useful partnership coming in later in the innings Ruhuna Reds was left with a daunting task of making another 59 runs in the last five overs.

They failed to achieve the target as Yasoda’s run put and Nuwan Kulasekera grabbing two wickets saw them falling short of 14 runs as they were able to muster a score of only 146 for 9.

Earlier Kumar Sangakkara continued his batting form when he made a fine knock of 49 in only 35 balls which comprised five boundaries and a six. In the process he was also associated in two fine partnerships.

With Upul Tharanga who made a 30 ball 36 with three boundaries and two sixes Sangakkara put on 38 runs for the second wicket and 42 runs for the third wicket with Chamara Silva which helped Kandurata Maroons to post a formidable score of 159.

Today is a rest day and the tournament will be continued tomorrow with two matches down for decision. The first match will be between Basnahira Greens and Ruhuna Reds at 9.15 a.m. followed by the match between Kandurata Maroons and Uthura Yellows at 2.15 p.m.
