The Jaffna Education Zone maintained their consistency in the Northern Provincial Schools Sports Competition, organized by the Provincial Department of Education, Northern Province, with an imperious all-round display at the Duraiyappah Stadium in Jaffna.
Even though the Valikamam Zone, which emerged the champion in 2010 and 2011, did well in the track and field events, the Jaffna Zone shone in the major games and became the runaway winners with 1056 points overall.

The inauguration ceremony was chaired by S. Sathiyaseelan, Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Cultural Affairs and Sports, Northern Province.

Unlike in previous years, the district level competition was foregone and direct from the zonal level, this year, the Provincial Competitions were held. Thus the ground was colorful, overflowing with boys and girls of twelve zones – Valikamam, Jaffna, Mannar, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya North, Vavuniya South, Vadamaradchi, Kilinochchi, Thenmaradchi, Thunukkai, Madu and the Islands.
All athletes showed their extraordinary talents and skills throughout the competition and it is pertinent to note that 89 new ground records were broken this year.

The Chief Guest of the closing day celebrations, Jaffna MP S. Alentin, gave away the trophies and awards to the winners.
