Guruge reelected to head Maliyadeva OBA
First- class club cricketer and Junior National selector Chandana Guruge has been re-elected as the president of the Maliyadeva college old boys Association in their annual general meeting held at the college premises recently.
He started playing cricket at the age of 13 and represented his Alma – mater from 1976. He has represented the college first xi cricket team from 1980-83After leaving school he Joined Kurunegala Sports club and represented them from 1979 -1983 in division II and division III cricket Also he turned out for Kurunegala Youth C.C in Sara trophy and Premier Trophy Cricket from 1983-1986
He toured to South Africa with Sri Lanka National masters team in 2005 For the world Indoor Cricket Championship.
All rounder Guruge has represented Ceylinco S.C from 1985-90 and also Browns group of companies from 1990-1996 in the Mercantile Cricket tournaments conducted by the Mercantile Cricket Association.
He coached his school Maliyadeva College for three years from 2006 in under 17 and under 19 levels.
Presently he is a junior national selector for Sri Lanka Cricket and also a Vice President in the Kurunegala District Cricket Association.
Speaking to “The Sunday Times” he said that his main aim is to complete the second stage of the existing Maliyadeva College Swimming pool project before next month to coincide with 125th anniversary celebrations of the Maliyadeva College which will be held shortly.
The proposed auditorium project and ground pavilion project are the other projects to be completed during the ensuing year.
