Justice Amerasinghe passes away
View(s):The funeral of Justice A.R.B. Amerasinghe, a former Supreme Court judge, academic and author of many law books, will take place this morning at the Borella Kanatte. He passed away on Friday at the age of 76.
Anthony Ranjit Bevis Amerasinghe was educated at the University of Ceylon, the Ceylon Law College and the Queen’s College Oxford. He was a law lecturer at the University of Ceylon and Visiting Research Fellow of the University of London.
He was member of the Council of Legal Education, Deputy Secretary General of The Asian African Legal Consultative Committee New Delhi and General Manager (Administration) of the Insurance Corporation of Sri Lanka.
He was a Judge of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka for thirteen years and Acting Chief Justice. Author of seventeen books and several papers published in learned journals in Sri Lanka and abroad, Justice Amerasinghe was also the Senior Economic Affairs Officer UNCTAD Geneva. He was the Chairman of the Law Commission for ten years.
He was the eldest son of Clarence & Sybil Amerasinghe. He leaves Yvonne his wife and his daughter Melina.
