country, Yatagala MV has a simple beginning. In 1910 this institution initiated as “Yatagala Government School” with a handful of students under the headship of Mr.J.M. Vandabona.

The school has a long history of almost 102 years and is of few oldest institutes in the Elpitiya Zone. As an educational institute, it has spread glory in academic, co-curricular and extracurricular activities. The centenary was held on 7th March, 2010 and with the expansion of the number of students the school has been developed in both infrastructure and academic field.

Though it was initiated with a handful of students, today it comprise more than 1500 students guided by Mr.Chandrika Wickramarachchi who leads the students to bloom as a well-educated and cultured generation.It is now categorized as 1AB, Sinhala medium, 1 to 13 school offers advanced level subjects Arts, science, maths and commerce
Now the school is equipped with large amount of facilities such as sports school, IT Unit, advanced level and Ordinary Level Laboratories, Library, Seminar hall, Music, art and dancing units. In addition they have a large playground for students.

In the recent years, Yatagala MV is maintaining excellent academic records in grade 5 scholarship, G.C.E.(O/L) and G.C.E.(A/L) examinations and the students have achieved the highest rankings in provincial levels.

They are very much specialized in their primary section. . The teachers devote to the task of providing knowledge and skills and assisting the pupils in the development of aptitudes. As the results, 10 students out of 77 got through the examination while another two reached closer to the border level which is as a village school really a triumph.

In G.C.E.O/L Examination a quite a number of students get qualified for the G.C.E A/L streams. Annually large amount of the students got qualified for the Universities. This shows the gradual progress of the school.

In the recent years the school has promptly improved in Co-curricular and Extracurricular activities such as Scouting, Girl scouting, Cadet Corp, environmental Corp, Sports, Science day, Sinhala

College Junior Cricket Team

Language Day, English Day etc. which takes prominent part in their annual schedule.

As the school observed as a secondary school under 1000 school project, the construction of a technology centre began under the supervision of the Hon. Resettlement minister M.A.Gunarathna Weerakoon who is a well-wisher of the school. Furthermore the provincial council minister and a past pupil of the school, Mr.S.L.Jayaweera is a massive strength to Yatagala MV who helps in the development in various ways.

With the mission of “To produce perfect citizens, who makes a decision solicit their hearts, understand by their knowledge and decide according to their culture a discipline to be the best enrich with high morals”, the school has taken massive treads within its short history span to enter through the gateways of status to reach great heights and inscribe its name in the plate of achievements as a leading school in Elpitiya Educational zone.
