Sri Lanka’s annual literary event, Galle Literary Festival (GLF), will not be held next year due to unforeseeable cancellations and time constraints, the organisers said.  Instead, it will return in 2014 with an “exciting list of authors”, they said.

“Following a number of unforeseeable cancellations, and given the rigid time constraints in the organisation of a festival of this size and stature, we have decided to take a break for the Festival in 2013,” a statement on GLF’s website said.

The festival team is currently working with their sponsors and partners towards creating a stimulating and inspirational programme for 2014, the statement said.

The event plans to return in 2014 with a host of renowned writers, authors, historians, poets and biographers both global and local, according to a statement from festival founder Geoffrey Dobbs. The dates for the 2014 festival are to be posted on the festival website shortly.
