Cross Roads – 2012 The Career Guidance programme for A/L students of Kalutara Educational Zone was held at Holy Cross College Kalutara on 9th Nov 2012. Cross Roads is an annual event organized by the Holy Cross College Old Boys’ Union – Colombo Branch. The objectives of Cross Roads are to create awareness amongst students on future career prospects to better prepare them for the same through school career. Cross Roads 2012 was attended by 10 schools and the number of students was around 800.

The career guidance seminar was conducted by HR professionals from Aitken Spence PLC. The seminar focused on enabling the students to discover one’s aptitude, likes and dislikes, to know one’s personality traits to improve upon and to select one’s best career path.

The special feature of Cross Roads 2012 was participation of Sri Lanka’s cricketing legend Muttiah Muralitharan.

Muttiah Muralitharan being the champion Cricketer he is and the popular figure among the cricket loving people of Sri Lanka received an overwhelming reception from the attendees at the seminar. Murali was interviewed by Ranjan Paranawithana who is a well-known cricket writer and a cricket coach from Kalutara. In the interview Murali shared with students his experiences in building his career, starting from school days ultimately to become one of the best in world cricket .The most vital advise from Murali to the students were to stick to the basics, pursue the chosen career with highest commitment and to the greatest of abilities and to set high standards in terms of goals and to achieve them.

The organising Committee of Cross Roads 2012 remarked, “Cross Road 2012 was a success in terms of creating career awareness amongst the students and providing inspiration to them to excel in their chosen careers”. Committee extends their appreciation to the Patron of the Old Boys’ Union – Colombo Branch, the Rector of Holy Cross College Kalutara, Rev. Fr. Dr. Camillus Fernando, sponsors, Aitken Spence PLC, participating schools, Director Education Department Kalutara Zone & Muralitharan for their contributions in making Cross Roads 2012 a success. They also commented, “Look forward to Cross Road -2103” next year.
