Zahira Group of 90 stages Sports Festival
View(s):The Group of 90 (G90) of Zahira College Colombo held its Sports Festival 2012, for the sixth consecutive year, at the college grounds in Maradana last weekend.
The intention of organizing a festival of this nature is primarily to foster goodwill among the Old Boys and to generate funds for the development of the college infrastructure and students’ education and extra-curricular activities.
Among the events held on the day were a six-a-side cricket tournament, a seven-a-side soccer tournament, a seven-a-side rugby tournament, a seven-a-side exhibition soccer match among Old Boys, a karate display by present boys, an art competition for schoolchildren and fun games for the children.
The chief guest was former Sri Lankan national cricketer and national hockey player S.H. Uvaisul Karnain. Zahira College Principal Mohamed Jiffry, Zahira College Sports Council Deputy Chairman M.S.M. Mazeer, Board of Governors Secretary Rizvi Niyas, G90 President Riza Zarook and Project Chairman N.M. Shiraz also distributed prizes, medals and certificates to winners.
