Sri Lanka remained as the only unbeaten team as they ended the first day recording comprehensive wins against group rivals Netherlands, India and Pakistan at the annual KARP Group Hong Kong Cricket Sixes yesterday.

With the three wins Sri Lanka moved to the Cup segment of the competition and are slotted to open today’s campaign against Group ‘A’ leader Hong Kong before facing South Africa and Group ‘B’ runner-up Pakistan who recorded two wins each yesterday.

India and Netherlands who played along with Sri Lanka in the Group ‘B’ moved to the Plate segment along with England and Australia who moved down to the segment from Group ‘A’. Today’s schedule will kick off when India takes on Australia in the first semi-final of the Plate championship while the second semi-final between England and Netherlands will be played in between the Cup round robin games. Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, South Africa and Pakistan will play in a round robin format before the top two teams meet in the Cup final shortly after the Plate final today.

Yesterday in their three Group ‘B’ games, Sri Lanka beat Netherlands by three runs in a high-scoring encounter, before thrashing India by 37 runs and Pakistan by three wickets later on the day.

In the first game, electing to bat first Sri Lanka piled up 107 runs without losing any wicket in five overs while the Netherlands came close to clinching a thrilling win by reaching 104 for no loss. Kusal Janith Perera who produced three superb knocks hammered 34 runs off eight balls with three fours and three sixes while Chamara Kapugedera hit 36 from 11 balls with two boundaries and three sixes. Skipper Jehan Mubarak made 27 from 10 balls with three fours and two sixes.

In their second match of the day, Sri Lanka batted first and reached the hundred mark for a second time by reaching 104 for the loss of two wickets. Kusal Janith continuing his fine form hit 35 from 12 balls with three fours and three sixes while Kapugedara reached 34 from seven deliveries with four boundaries and three sixes. Kaushal Lokuarachchi made 22 from seven balls with two fours and two sixes as India were restricted to 67 for the loss of four wickets.

In their last group game, Pakistan batted first and were bowled out for 85 runs. Sri Lanka made 89 for the loss of three wickets with Kusal Janith clobbering 33 from nine balls with three fours and three sixes. Kosala Kulasekara hit 21 from nine balls three fours and a six.

Hong Kong 134-1 beat Australia 67-4 by 67 runs; Sri Lanka 107-0 beat Netherlands 104-0 by 3 runs, Hong Kong 84-2 lost to South Africa 90-2 by 4 wickets; India 69-3 beat Netherlands 60-4 by 9 runs; Australia 86-4 lost to England 88-0 by 6 wickets; Netherlands 73-4 lost to Pakistan 78-0 by 6 wickets; Australia 91-2 beat South Africa 56 all out by 35 runs; Sri Lanka 104-2 beat India 67-4 by 37 runs; Hong Kong 78 all out beat England 71-3 by 7 runs; India 70-3 lost to Pakistan 73-1 by 5 wickets; South Africa 113-1 beat England 92-3 by 21 runs; Pakistan 85 all out lost to Sri Lanka 89-3 by 3 wickets.
