This year’s edition of the Zahira Super 16 Soccer 7s will hold a revised format of play, which will provide participating teams with more opportunities to remain in the competition, tournament organizers, the Past Prefects’ Association of Zahira College, announced.

The new tournament structure will see play broken up into four groups in the first round, following which, depending upon their performances in these groups, teams will be divided into four categories: the Cup, Plate, Bowl and Shield championships.

This year’s tournament, the school’s eight consecutive one which is set to kick off on October 6 from 8.30 am at the Zahira College grounds in Colombo, will see Maanippai Hindu College Jaffna, St. Mary’s Kegalle, Zahira College Mawanella and Ananda College placed in Group A. Zahira College Colombo, Lumbini College, Isipathana College and Maris Stella College Negombo will contest in Group B. De Mazenod College, St. Joseph’s College, D.S Senanayake College and St. Thomas College Matara will play in Group C, while the last group, Group D, will feature Wesley College, Holy Cross College Kalutara, Hindu College and St. Benedict’s College.

The competition will also possess Most Valuable Player, Best Goalkeeper, and Fair Play awards. Furthermore, the tournament winners will walk away with a cash prize of Rs. 20,000, with the second and third placed teams receiving Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5,000 respectively.
