Shanil Jayasekara, a teacher of Accountancy and Finance for 20 years, is currently the Director of Wisdom Business Academy, Colombo 3. His teaching experience includes stints in India, Malaysia, Hong-Kong and Singapore and he also has experience as a Principal of a school and the country Manager of a leading Indian University branch in Sri Lanka. With his experience in Secondary and Tertiary education, he has been instrumental in guiding many students towards finding their career path and success.

Why do you think a student should select CIMA after A/Ls?

“In my personal opinion the current education system does not gear the student to be ready for employment. I see a gap between the requirement of the corporate environment and an after A/L student. To be able to demand a position in which you are able to further advance in your career you must fill this gap, by completing a degree or/ and a professional qualification which will equip you to fit into the corporate world. CIMA is an excellent option because, you can complete the qualification within 2 ½ years at a reasonable cost. And after this short duration you find a dramatic rise in remuneration, which can be seen in the following Appendix. ”

Why should a student select Wisdom?

“Wisdom Business Academy has been existence for over 10 years. It is the oldest CIMA quality Learning partner in existence. It is an ISO 9001:2008 Certified company. Wisdom Business Academy is recognised as the largest business school in Sri Lanka, because more than 5000 students per annum select Wisdom “as the place for CIMA”.

Wisdom Business Academy has produced 98 Sri Lankan Prizes winners and 7 world prizes winners. In addition 3 of our lecturers have been selected as Tutor of the Year – which is determined by CIMA UK.

Wisdom also offers the opportunity to complete their professional qualification along with an Academic qualification, which is a degree from Robert Gordon University within the duration of 2 ½ years. The Robert Gordon University is currently ranked as the Number one University, among the new universities in the UK.”

How is Wisdom different from the other CIMA institutes in Sri Lanka?

“Firstly, there is a reason why Wisdom has a student base of over 5000 per annum and that is due to the quality of lecturing that is provided and the determination and the dedication of the lectures. We have created an environment which encourages students to discuss doubts and ask questions, all lecturers conduct mock exams and ensure that questions are attempted by the students. These answers are then corrected and comprehensive feedback given – But we also have not forgotten the importance of a well rounded personality.
