Innovative city in Sooriyawewa

A mixed development project is set to come up in the Sooriyawewa area at Meegahayandura in the Hambantota district on a plot of 500 acres. The project that has received the approval from the Urban Development Authority is set to get off the ground, official sources said. It is in this same area that the international cricket stadium has been established on a plot of 50 acres, official sources said.

As part of this, requirements are in place for the cricket ground to be functioning along with the necessary investments. In this respect, hotels, an industrial area, residential areas and leisure areas are being looked at for development in this particular area.

With the Board of Investment currently engaged in the urgent task of converting the export processing zones (EPZ) to model zones, investor proposals have not yet been called. As such the Hambantota proposed zone is currently on the table with the land acquisition already carried out.
