Energy Minister faces indictment over fertiliser tender
View(s):The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has directed its officials to prepare the indictment papers to be filed on allegations against Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody on the misappropriation of funds while he was serving at the Fertiliser Corporation in 2015.
Earlier the minister had requested permission for his counsel to call over and make submissions, but the commission gave permission to make written submissions.
The written submissions were taken into consideration, but the Commission has decided to file action against the minister.
The action is to be filed in the High Court against the minister and two others over charges of misappropriation of Rs 8 million.
Mr Jayakody had served as the head of the tender board that awarded a particular tender that came under scrutiny.
