Easter Sunday attacks: AG orders CID to probe Sirisena, Ranil, top officials

The Attorney General has directed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to open investigations against persons held responsible by the Presidential Commission for the Easter Sunday attacks.
Accordingly, the CID has been directed to study the commission’s recommendations and take action.
Among those named by the commission are the then-president Maithripala Sirisena, the then-prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the then-defence secretary Hemasiri Fernando, the then-inspector general of police Pujith Jayasundara, and the then-senior police officers Sisira Mendis, Nilantha Jayawardana, Nandana Munasinghe, Lalith Pathinayake, Deshabandu Tennakoon, Wasantha Wickremesinghe, G.O. Perera, and M.R. Lathif. The letter instructing the CID Director Shani Abeysekara has been signed by Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris and Deputy Solicitor General Madhawa Tennakoon.
The Presidential Commission was headed by Justice Janak de Silva.
The letter instructs the CID to carry out its investigations and submit its report for further advice.
