Traffic accident case against DIG Ravi Seneviratne transferred to Mt Lavinia magistrate’s court
View(s):The Court of Appeal has ordered that the case against Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security and retired Senior DIG Ravi Seneviratne involving a traffic accident be transferred from the Mount Lavinia Additional Magistrate’s Court to the Mount Lavinia Chief Magistrate’s Court.
The Court of Appeal’s two-judge bench comprised Justices Mayadunne Corea and Mahen Gopallawa.
Mr. Seneviratne had filed a transfer application before the Court of Appeal seeking to move the case from the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court to another court on the grounds that he did not receive a fair hearing on the plea to withdraw the charge of driving under the influence of liquor. The plea was made on the grounds that the balloon used for the breathalyser test was not produced to court in the proper manner.
Deputy Solicitor General Riyaz Bary appearing for the police agreed to the transfer of the case.
The case relates to allegations that Ravi Seneviratne drove under the influence of alcohol and failed to prevent a road accident in 2023.
